VOICES OF SEPTEMBER 11th PLANS FIRST FUNDRAISING GALA

NBC’s Brian Williams to Host at Greenwich Country Club
  Thursday, May 29, 2008

NEW CANAAN, Conn. (March 31, 2008) – Voices of September 11th (VOICES), the pre-eminent non-profit organization that advocates and provides services for those affected by the terrorist attacks on New York, Shanksville, Pa., and Washington, D.C., will hold its first-ever fundraising gala at the Greenwich Country Club on Thursday, May 29, 2008, starting at 6:30 p.m.

Master of ceremonies will be NBC nightly news anchor Brian Williams, a resident of New Canaan, the town where Voices has been headquartered since shortly after the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001.

The event, which features a silent auction, dinner, live auction and entertainment, will focus on raising funds for the creation of the Voices of September 11th Living Memorial digital archive to commemorate the lives and stories of September 11, 2001 and February 26, 1993.

The Living Memorial digital archive (www.911livingmemorial.org), originally conceived by September’s Mission, was launched by VOICES in September 2006.  The organization has hosted over 50 workshops around the country to work one-on-one with 9/11 families, rescue workers, survivors and corporations to document their stories.  To date VOICES has created over 1,400 tributes in memory of those who perished and has documented over 500 memorials built in their memory.  “This historic project will ensure that future generations will always remember both those who lost their lives and the inspirational stories of how our nation came together,” said Mary Fetchet, the founding director of VOICES of September 11th.

The commemorative website will eventually be incorporated into the planned National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center as a core component of the Museum’s digital resource center.
