10TH DAY OF REMEMBRANCE LOOKS AT ISSUES FACING THE 9/11 COMMUNITY

PRESENTATIONS ON UNMET NEEDS, THE NATIONAL SEPTEMBER 11 MEMORIAL & MUSEUM, AND THE 9/11 LIVING MEMORIAL

Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008, 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.,
Marriott New York Downtown, near Ground Zero

Seven years after 9/11, many support organizations are closing their doors. Yet family members of those who died, along with many of those who toiled for long, difficult hours in the rescue and recovery efforts, are still in desperate need of many kinds of support.  The unmet needs of the 9/11 community is just one of the topics that will be discussed at the Day of Remembrance forum and exhibit hosted on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2007, by Voices of September 11th, the leading advocacy organization for those impacted by 9/11 and other terrorist attacks (www.voicesofsept11.org).

This year’s events, hosted in partnership with the National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center, (NS11MM) will feature progress updates on designing and building the Museum and Memorial. There will also be updates on VOICES’ 9/11 Living Memorial digital archive and the StoryCorps September 11th Initiative, both of which will be part of the NS11MM.

The event, which will be held at the Marriott New York Downtown (85 West Street), will also include workshops to allow 9/11 family members, rescue workers and survivors to create their pages on the 9/11 Living Memorial, a permanent digital archive that will preserve the lives and stories of September 11, 2001 for generations to come. The online archive documents the stories of survivors, rescue workers and corporations affected by the attacks. The public is invited to bring photographs, memorial programs and other mementos that commemorate the lives and the stories of 9/11 to be digitized by members of the VOICES staff.  Artifacts and personal keepsakes preserved by families will be on display at the Sept. 10 event.
