December 04, 2009

Dear Families and Friends,

President Obama’s announcement on Afghanistan and the decision to hold the 9/11 trials in New York mean the services that VOICES provides will be even more critical in 2010. Due to the requests of our membership we are hosting additional teleconference support groups on Monday, December 7th at 12noon; Wednesday, December 9th at 10am and Thursday, December 17th at 7pm. Contact Michelle Doherty at mdoherty@voicesofsept11.org for reservations. Visit VOICES website for updates on the 9/11 Trials.

This month we are launching a three-fold fundraising effort including our annual appeal which you will receive in the mail, a fundraising event at Chico's and participation in the Chase Community Giving Challenge. Donations can also be made on line. All proceeds will support our important work to provide information, support services and to create the 9/11 Living Memorial Project, a meaningful tribute to those we lost and those who survived. As always we appreciate your support!

VOICES continues to hold weekly 9/11 Living Memorial workshops at our New Canaan and New Brunswick offices as well as communities throughout the tri-state area. VOICES is pleased share the workshop story of recent participants Linda Dickinson, Angela Gitto and Arlene Sacerdote. Their heartwarming story of friendship and support provided a healing and rewarding experience.

Those of you who did not have an opportunity to visit the USS NY will want to read 9/11 family member and VOICES volunteer Alessandra Benedetto’s compelling account of her visit to the ship that she graciously contributed to this newsletter.

In closing, we extend an invitation to all to attend our Holiday Open House at VOICES New Brunswick office on Thursday, December 10th. Join us for a light buffet and children's art activities. For reservations and information please contact Gina Reilly at (732) 543-2300. More.

Warm regards,

Mary Fetchet

9/11 Living Memorial - The Power of Connection

On the morning of October 15th Angela, Arlene, and Linda weathered the day’s stormy weather, arriving at VOICES New Brunswick, NJ office to pay tribute to those they loved and lost on 9/11. One arrived with several bags, more than she was able to carry. They helped each other shoulder the weight of these bags filled with photos, keepsakes, cards, and fond memories of the husbands they lost much as they have throughout the years since 9/11. 9/11 Family Member Reflects on her Visit to the USS NY

It’s Tuesday Nov. 3rd, the day first responders and the 9/11 community can view the ship that was made in our honor, remembering all those lost. I felt I had to be there to witness this incredible ship in person. I was very excited when my mother-in-law Sophie, a Navy veteran herself, wanted to be a part of this so off we went More
