August 28, 2009

Dear Families and Friends,

It is such a busy time for all of us with summer winding down, children going back to school and late summer vacations ending. This newsletter will hopefully make it easier to understand the events that VOICES is offering to commemorate the 8th anniversary, as well as a calendar of events that other organizations are sponsoring.

This coming Monday, August 31st, we are proud to host a ribbon cutting and open house that will officially launch our New Brunswick, New Jersey office. Governor Kean and others will be participating in the ceremony which begins at 11am and will be followed by a reception and open house until 5pm. We are very excited to be part of the New Brunswick community and pleased that numerous family members will be in attendance too. We hope you will take this opportunity to visit our new office and meet our staff, led by Gina Reilly.

Thanks to each of you who responded to our survey. Your input has been very helpful to the VOICES team as they planned our Day of Remembrance programs. We have scheduled two VOICES Day of Remembrance events – one on September 9 at our new office in New Brunswick, New Jersey and the other on September 10 at the Marriott Downtown Hotel in New York City. Seating is limited so be sure to make reservations to attend.

Our New York City event on September 10th is a full day of panel discussions of interest to the 9/11 community. The program includes an update on the National September 11 Memorial & Museum and our work to create the 9/11 Living Memorial Project as well as presentations by My Good Deed and Project Rebirth. The day will conclude with a Building Bridges Award to honor our friend and colleague, Beverly Eckert. We are compiling a book of reflections together that we will present to her family. Please send your letters via email or by mail. Our VOICES team will be conducting 9/11 Living Memorial workshops by appointment throughout the day.

We hope you will join us at our inaugural event in New Brunswick on Monday. We will send further details on the Day of Remembrance program early next week.

Warm Regards,

Mary and the Voices Staff
