VOICES News Alert

December 21, 2012

Dear Families and Friends,

On behalf all of us at VOICES, we send our best wishes to you and your family for a happy and healthy holiday. At this special time of year, we especially remember the families in Newtown, Connecticut and those impacted by Hurricane Sandy. We hold them close to our hearts and hope they find strength and solace from the outpouring of support from around the nation.

During the holiday season we are reminded of the importance of family and friends. Often times gestures from perfect strangers can also provide comfort - a note, a hug, or words of encouragement from a compassionate person. Our local newspaper, the New Canaan Advertiser, launched Operation Fuzzy Wuzzy II, a project coordinated by Julie Butler and Deborah Johns. They are collecting teddy bears which will be distributed to the children in Newtown.

A young woman who participated in the project wrote:

"This bear (I named him Ted) was there for me when I was 7 and sick. I know from experience that he is the best bear in the whole world. He slept by my side for 11 years and he was always there to hug when I was sad or scared. Now I want you to have him because you need him more than I do. Love your neighbor in New Canaan, Maddie."

Maddie's comforting note was a reminder of many letters we received following 9/11. It is this heartwarming spirit of giving that exemplifies the goodness that surrounds us and gives us hope for the future.

As you gather together to celebrate the holidays, we wish you peace, hope and love!

With Warm Wishes,
