Dear Families and Friends,

Cupcakes and daffodils - what a wonderful way to mark a special occasion!

St. Peter's ServiceOn Saturday, March 24th, VOICES invited members of the 9/11 community to come together for an interfaith service and a visit to the 9/11 Memorial. The gathering took place at the historic St. Peter's R.C. Church, just a short distance from the World Trade Center site. Father Kevin Madigan and Reverend Dale Lind led the participants in prayer and Rabbi Norman R. Patz wrote in his message that "we must be the instruments of God's justice and mercy."

The musical selections performed by Galen Tate, Joan Olson, Matt Thomas, and Nada Radulovich were beautiful and touching. In her remarks, Alice Greenwald, Director of the 9/11 Memorial, was among those to comment on the stirring performances of The Prayer, We Remember Them and The Blessing.

CupcakesAnd then there were those cupcakes and daffodils! Thanks to the generosity of Georgetown Cupcake, which has recently opened its first New York store in Soho, we were treated to a delicious dessert. It complemented the generous-sized sandwiches provided by the Corner Gourmet and the Kitchenette, also located in Manhattan. Dozens of daffodils, contributed by Connecticut's Stew Leonard Supermarket, graced the tables at the reception and later were distributed to attendees to bring to the 9/11 Memorial.

The visit to the 9/11 Memorial gave us the opportunity to visit together as a community and leave daffodils in remembrance of our loved ones lost. We are very grateful to the museum staff for making us feel so welcome. Daffodils at the Memorial

As one of our family members said, "We went to the Memorial and laid the daffodil by our son's name. It was the first time my husband was there. It was so good to be among families and not tourists."

All of us at VOICES are grateful to those who contributed so meaningfully to its success. Thank you to all who offered to participate in the service, including Kenneth and Sharon Ambrose, Alessandra Benedetti, Bridget Cagney, Mary and David Henwood, Nancy Holzhauer, Gloria and Anthony Ingrassia, Miles Kass, Cristina McGinniss, Arnold and Rosemary Roma, Linda Woodwell, and Charlie Wolf. We owe a very special thank you to Father Madigan for welcoming us at St. Peter's.
