DEAR FAMILIES AND FRIENDS,

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

This week we heard from many Mothers about the challenges they face as they approach Mother's Day. We have included some thoughts from Dr. Robin Goodman, VOICES Director of Family Services. We'd like to hear from you!! As you read the article we'd appreciate any suggestions you may want to share. What is helpful to you and your family? What has given you comfort in past years? How do you remember the person you lost on Mother's Day? We will collect your reflections and share them in next week's newsletter. Please submit by email to reflections@voicesofsept11.org

We recognize that Mother's Day can be a difficult holiday. VOICES has scheduled a Mother's Day Teleconference Group this Thursday, May 11th at 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm EST to discuss these issues. Please contact our office at (866) 505-3911 if you are interested in participating. Our best wishes to you and your family.

Warm Regards,

Mary Fetchet

5th ANNUAL RICHARD BOSCO MEMORIAL GOLF OUTING

When: Monday, June 12, 2006
Where: New York Country Club, New Hempstead, NY
Contact: Bill Bosco, Jr., email: billyb2000@aol.com, (914) 522-3233
Information: Visit the event website and registration form

Rich's memory lives on through the Richard Bosco Memorial Scholarship Fund. The Annual Golf Outing raises scholarship money which helps to enrich the lives of students at both Suffern High School and SUNY Geneseo. The 2005 Rich Bosco Memorial event raised $30,000 to add to the Fund while honoring Rich's life. To date we have given scholarships totaling $17,400 to 38 students. It is a wonderful tribute to a great man. Non-golfers have the option to attend the event dinner only, and hole sponsorship opportunities are available.

SPECIAL RESERVED TIMES FOR INTERVIEWS PROVIDED TO VOICES FAMILIES

Following their highly successful visit to our New Canaan Office, StoryCorps will visit Rockland County, NY next month to record additional interviews with VOICES families. StoryCorps will be recording Saturday, June 17 and Thursday June 22 at the office of ....

Washington, D.C.
from May 18 to May 28, 2006
, and will be parked in front of the Library of Congress' Madison Building.

Special access to reservations will be provided to those affiliated with Voices of September 11th.

StoryCorps is a national project created to inspire and enable people to record each other’s stories in sound. In 2005, StoryCorps began a special initiative to record the stories of those closely impacted by September 11th. This initiative has two components:

• StoryCorps provides families, friends, and co-workers with a way to celebrate and commemorate the lives of loved ones lost on September 11th by creating audio portraits of their lives. By telling stories and sharing memories of your loved one, you preserve their legacy for future generations.
• StoryCorps records the stories of survivors, rescue workers, police officers, volunteers, witnesses, or anyone closely impacted by September 11th in order to preserve their personal experiences for history.

Each recording session occurs in an interview format and takes approximately one hour, with 40-minutes of actual recording time. A StoryCorps facilitator will be there to guide you through the process and to handle the technical aspects of the recording. You are encouraged to come with someone you know, and interview them or be interviewed yourself. Should you prefer to come alone, a StoryCorps facilitator will interview you. At the end of your interview, you receive a CD copy of your 40-minute recording to share with family and friends. With your permission, a second copy of your interview will be archived at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress, allowing future generations to know about the life of your loved one or about your experiences.

To make a reservation, please contact Tracy Serdjenian at 646.723.7025 x32 or by e-mail at tracy@storycorps.net. For more information about StoryCorps, including the New York City StoryBooths and the national MobileBooth Tour, visit www.storycorps.net. SUPPORT THE BAYONNE, NJ MEMORIAL AT "HARBOR VIEW PARK"

The City of Bayonne, New Jersey's "Harbor View Park" will be the home of Bayonne's September 11th Memorial "To The Struggle Against World Terrorism," pictured at left. The Memorial sculpture was designed by world-renowned artist Zurab Tsereteli and donated to Bayonne by the people of Russia. The Memorial will have a direct line of sight to the WTC site across Upper New York Bay.

The Park is currently under construction, and Bayonne is soliciting sponsors for 8" by 7" paving stones that can be customized. Each "paver" costs $50.00 and can be engraved with up to 78 characters. It is a wonderful way to support the Park while making a personal statement of patriotism, remembrance, or love. Click here to visit the City of Bayonne website for more information, or to order your own "paver."
