Dear Families and Friends,

First of all, I would like to wish you all a happy New Year on behalf of all of us at VOICES. We hope your holiday was safe and enjoyable, and that you took time with family and friends to enjoy the season.  This time of year is also a wonderful opportunity to look back on the past year and set ones sights on the challenges in the year ahead.

I am very proud of our VOICES team and our accomplishments in 2006.  We continue to serve those in need through our mental health professionals and support group sessions.  With your input, we designed a new website to provide information and resources to the 9/11 community and educate the public about necessary public policy reforms. Most recently we launched Voices for Kids, a great new resource for our younger members, read more about this site below. (Grant???) We are also excited about the 9/11 Living Memorial Project and offer our thanks to the several hundred family members who have started offering the storied of their loved ones lost on 9/11.  The 9/11 Living Memorial also contains information on 9/11 memorials around the nation and the world, as well as galleries and archives of artistic responses to 9/11. We continue to collaborate with the WTC Memorial Museum with the ultimate goal of making the 9/11 Living Memorial available to everyone experiencing a WTC site visit.

Finally, we remain focused on promoting the 9/11 Commission Recommendations through our advocacy efforts in DC.  Next week, I will join other family members testifying before the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee on the status of the recommendations.  The promise of the new Congress is exciting and we will continue to press for necessary change to make us all safer. Look for details in next week’s e-Newsletter.

Looking ahead to this year we remain focused on enhancing our support efforts for the community of those in need—survivors, rescue/recovery and cleanup workers and families. We will continue to develop our website to meet your needs. Please let us know if you have any ideas or suggestions to improve the site.  The 9/11 Living Memorial Project will continue to grow and continue to proudly represent those lost in 9/11 and commemorate the response to the attacks. ture generations will understand what we experienced.

We hope this is the beginning of a healthy and happy New Year for you all. Please don’t hesitate to call us if we can be of service to you.

Warm regards,

MAF
