DEAR FAMILIES AND FRIENDS,
I want to thank those of you who attended this week’s 9/11 Living Memorial workshop in Jamison, PA. Also, a special thanks to Susan Bizon of NOVA PA for all her help in arranging the workshop. It’s wonderful to meet with families who are so eager to begin the process of creating a tribute page for their loved one. We will be planning more workshops in the coming months, and I look forward to meeting with many of you.
While in Pennsylvania, I had the opportunity to visit the Garden of Reflection, Pennsylvania’s official 9/11 memorial site. It is a beautiful, serene, and moving tribute, and I encourage you to visit if you have the opportunity to do so. Please see the 9/11 Living Memorial Feature section below for more information.

Pennsylvania’s Garden of Reflection
 The Garden of Reflection, Pennsylvania’s Official 9/11 Memorial, was dedicated last September in Lower Makefield, PA. The memorial consists of two fountains, symbolic of the Twin Towers; a Walk of Remembrance, with glass panels etched with the names of all 2,973 victims; and a memorial rail containing the names of the seventeen Bucks County residents who were killed.
As the Garden of Reflection’s website explains, “This garden has been designed to be a contemplative, peaceful place to go, remember, and pay respects to all those who perished on 9/11. But it also is a place to enjoy life and be vibrant, as all of our loved ones once were. Ball fields, tennis courts, and walking paths will be part of the overall design to be enjoyed by all families.”

Raymond M. Downey Sixth Annual Father’s Day “Forever Running" Memorial
Time: 9:30am ¼ mile Kids Fun Run; 10am 5K Run/Walk
Location: Deer Park, Long Island
To keep the memory of Chief Downey and all the victims of Sept. 11th alive. Chief Downey was a legend in the firefighting community and was one of the most highly decorated members of the NYC Fire Dept. The 5k run will take place on June 17, 2007 at 10:00 am, and the Kids Fun Run at 9:30 am, in Deer Park, Long Island. Pre-registration fee for 5K run is $15. For students grades K-12 the pre-registration fee is $10. The Kids Fun Run is free. Special awards, raffle prizes, carnival entertainment, and a family barbecue will follow the run. All money raised will go to the D.C. Raymond M Downey Scholarship Charity Fund. | PREPAREDNESS Update |
Digital TV Transfer Box Unveiled; Transition Will Free Up Radio Spectrum for Emergency Communications
 Starting February 17, 2009, all television signals will be sent digitally, requiring TV viewers who still use "rabbit ears" or other analog antennae to purchase a converter box to recieve the signals. Part of the analog spectrum will then be assigned to facilitate emergency communications, with a large chunk to be auctioned for cell phone and other uses. Two prototype analog-digital converter boxes were unveiled yesterday. A model made by LG is shown above. Click to read more.
