"Preserving 9/11" Forum Spotlight: Bring your Mementos to Create your 9/11 Living Memorial Page

The 2007 "Preserving 9/11" Forum and Exhibits is a great time to add a family tribute, survivor story or other tribute to the 9/11 Living Memorial. On September 10th from 10:00am to 5:00pm and on September 11th from 9:00am to 1:00pm, family liaison Debbie Westfal and the VOICES staff will be available to help you add your story to the 9/11 Living Memorial. Bring your mementos, including photographs, written tributes, eulogies, videos and phone messages. VOICES encourages family members, first responders, recovery workers and survivors to participate. Contact our office to schedule an appointment or if you’d prefer, bring your items in a well marked envelope and we will return them to you in the mail. Click to learn more about the 9/11 Living Memorial.

The Forum will also feature a 9/11 Living Memorial Panel Discussion from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. The program will feature an introduction by Mary Fetchet and Monica Iken, Founder, September’s Mission, and continue with a group of people who have added content to the digital archive: Carol Ashley, Mother of Janice Ashley; Mickey Kross, FDNY, Survivor; Lindsay Campbell, Research Urban Planner, US Forest Service Living Memorials Project; and Janny Scott, New York Times Portraits of Grief contributing reporter.

9/11 Living Memorial Feature

9/11 Memorial at St. Joseph's Chapel

In the wake of September 11th, many artists have paid tribute to those who lost their lives by creating all kinds of memorials. St. Joseph’s Chapel in New York, remembers and honors the victims of September 11th with four incredibly detailed bronze statues. Each statue is unique and has been designed to commemorate the men and women who lost their lives as well as those who were involved in the rescue efforts of 9/11. First there is St. Florian, the patron saint of firefighters and second, Saint Michael the Archangel, the patron saint of police officers. St. Joseph is the patron saint of workers and his sculpture honors those who survived as well as all workers who died, those who worked on the recovery and rebuilding, and all who were bereaved by the tragedy. St. Mary Magdalene is the apostle to the apostles and represents those who serve, the airline employees and passengers and the thousands of volunteers who provided their time and energy in the recovery effort. For more information and detailed photos of these amazing sculptures, visit the 9/11 Memorial at St. Joseph's Chapel 9/11 Living Memorial Page.
