Please Attend our Voices of September 11th Always Remember Fundraising Gala!

Dear Families and Friends,

It is now just two short weeks to our inaugural Always Remember gala to raise funds for the 9/11 Living Memorial digital archive, which will take place on Thursday, May 29th at the Greenwich Country Club. I would like to ask all of you who haven't already done so to consider attending our event.

It promises to be a memorable evening, with live and silent auctions and many special guests and speakers, as well as music from the world-renowned Harlem Gospel Choir to uplift and inspire us. NBC Nightly news anchor Brian Williams will be the Master of Ceremonies, and remarks by ESPN’s Chris Berman on the importance of team spirit off the field, both on 9/11 and afterwards, will be among the highlights of the evening.  Other honored guests include 9/11 Commission Co-Chair Governor Thomas Kean, former Steelers quarterback Terry Hanratty and Alice Greenwald, Director of the National September 11 Memorial Museum.

As you know, funds raised at the gala will support the Voices of September 11th Living Memorial digital archive. The 9/11 Living Memorial will document the lives and stories of September 11th, 2001 at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and Shanksville, PA. This archive will be a core component of the National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center which will open its doors in 2011. By documenting the lives of those who died, the first-hand accounts of rescue workers and survivors, and the responses of corporations and organizations, this project will ensure that the history of 9/11 is preserved for future generations of Americans.

VOICES’ team of social workers is traveling around the nation, meeting one-on-one with families to create memorial pages to their loved ones by digitizing photographs, documents and other keepsakes.  As part of the outreach process, we have discovered that many of those impacted still need help.  In fact, demand for our mental health support services continues to rise, as does our membership.  Funding for 9/11 organizations is disappearing, and VOICES is one of the few remaining organizations providing these important services.  Support for fundraising events such as our gala are crucial in enabling us to provide these services to our members and in developing the 9/11 Living Memorial.

So please support us by attending our gala event. We would love to see you there. Tickets start atat $250 per person. We know this is expensive, but this is a fundraising event and we hope you will understand why costs have to be high. If you cannot attend, please consider making a contribution to VOICES. We ned and appreciate every donation, large and small!

To purchase tickets, make a donation or find out more about the gala, please contact Michelle Doherty at (203) 966-3911, mdoherty@voicesofsept11.org.

Warm regards,

Mary and the VOICES staff
