August 3, 2009

Dear Families and Friends,

As the 8th anniversary approaches we are making plans for our annual September 10th Day of Remembrance in New York City and at our new office in New Brunswick New Jersey. The Day of Remembrance will include a 9/11 Living Memorial Workshop, an update on the National September 11 Memorial & Museum and a series of breakout sessions and panel discussions. In an effort to understand the needs of our membership, we ask you to take a few moments to participate in a brief survey included below. Your input will help us finalize our program! We are also interested in finding a sponsor for the event.

During the month of August we have scheduled several 9/11 Living Memorial Workshops in Connecticut, New Jersey and New York.  We hope you take an opportunity to participate in a workshop and begin the process of creating a meaningful tribute to your loved one.

All of us at VOICES are very excited about participating in the World Trade Center Run to Remember, which will be held on September 6th at Governor’s Island in New York City.    The Run to Remember Foundation, Inc., is coordinating this 3K and 5K Run/Walk both to honor the memories of all the 9/11 victims as well as to raise funds and awareness for several 9/11 organizations, including Voices of September 11th.  We hope you will join us on September 6th to raise funds for VOICES programs.  All donations made to VOICES will benefit our efforts to create a meaningful tribute to those who died in the 9/11 Living Memorial.  If you haven’t viewed the 9/11 Living Memorial Project, please visit www.911livingmemorial.org.

Warm Regards,

Mary and the Voices Staff

Share Your Story with the Museum in the Washington Metropolitan Area

The National September 11 Memorial & Museum is pleased to be working with Arlington County and partner StoryCorps, to record oral history interviews with victims' family members, first responders, volunteers, survivors, and witnesses of the 9/11 attacks. The Memorial Museum will preserve these personal stories in order to tell the story of 9/11 and to remember those who were killed.

For three days – September 2, 3, and 4 -- Museum oral historians and StoryCorps staff will conduct oral history interviews at the Arlington County Government Center in Arlington, VA. These stories will play a vital role in the Museum’s exhibitions and programming, enabling authentic accounts of 9/11 and its aftermath.

To learn more about opportunities to share your story and to schedule an appointment, please contact:
