VOICES OF SEPTEMBER 11TH FOUNDER, MARY FETCHET,
SUPPORTS TSA SCREENING
New Canaan CT., November 18, 2010. Protecting its citizens is one of the most important responsibilities and challenges of our government. In the almost 10 years since the September 11th attacks, Americans have relied on our government to use every tool at its disposal to prevent another attack. Recent attempts by terrorists to carry explosives in their clothing and plant bombs on airplanes, validates the grim reality that the safety of airline passengers continues to be at risk. The recent Christmas Day plot is a reminder that, during the holiday season when airline travel increases significantly, it is especially critical to implement comprehensive security measures.
On September 11, 2001 terrorists used planes as missiles that struck the World Trade Center buildings, the Pentagon and crashed into a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. As parents of one of the nearly 3,000 victims, we learned through the loss of our 24 year-old son, the tragic consequences of allowing terrorists to board a commercial airline. We supported the 9/11 Commission and believe that Americans should support the efforts of those charged with the ongoing challenges of protecting us. Through the use of the latest technology we will prevent terrorists from using airplanes as a means of taking American lives and instill confidence in the American public that it is safe to fly.
We also applaud the recent announcement of the expansion of the “If You See Something, Say Something” Campaign. It is the responsibility of all Americans to assist law enforcement in the important task of ensuring the safety and security of their communities.
