Dear Families and Friends,

As the sobering details from Haiti continue to unfold, our thoughts and prayers are with those families who have been so profoundly impacted. The loss of life and human suffering are hard to imagine and, much like after 9/11, the outpouring of compassion and generosity from around the world has been extraordinary. All of us want to help!

We have been advised that the best way to assist is by making donations to financially support the many wonderful organizations responding through relief efforts and have included information below on how you may make a donation. As 9/11 survivors we understand the challenges ahead and the importance of long-term support in rebuilding their lives and communities.

Last week Frank and I traveled to Washington, D.C. to attend several Senate Congressional hearings held to investigate security failures surrounding the Christmas Day plot. We were joined by 9/11 families and the families of flight 3407, which occurred nearly a year ago en route to Buffalo. Beverly Eckert’s sister, Karen, was also in attendance. The hearing reinforced the importance of a collective effort by victim’s advocacy groups, independent organizations with subject matter expertise and government agencies.

It was reassuring that so many knowledgeable individuals have stepped forward to reevaluate where we stand on the implementation of the 9/11 Commission reforms. There is still much work to be done to ensure our safety and the Christmas Day near-tragedy was a wakeup call. President Obama will be given a full report within 30 days on what actions are needed. We will continue to monitor other hearings on this topic.

There is much in the news that touches “9/11” and hope you find this e-newsletter helpful.

Warm regards,

Mary Fetchet & The VOICES Staff
