VOICES Newsletter

August 25, 2010

Dear Families and Friends,

As the 9th anniversary approaches, it has been wonderful to hear from so many of you! The anniversary is always a time of reflection but also a time to reconnect with the 9/11 community and welcome those who are joining us for the first time. VOICES staff has been busy responding to a variety of concerns, requests for services and inquiries about opportunities to participate in the upcoming commemorative events.

In preparation for the upcoming anniversary we are hosting informal gatherings at our New Jersey office on Wednesday, September 1st from noon to 2pm and at our Connecticut office on Thursday, September 2nd from 6pm to 8pm. The gatherings will be an opportunity to discuss topics of interest with others who have a shared experience.

September 5th VOICES will participate in the 2nd Annual World Trade Center Run to Remember. Thanks to all who have already registered to run (or walk) and raise funds for VOICES.

On September 10th we will host our 9th annual Day of Remembrance events in New York City. The Information Forum will include a full schedule of expert panelists, roundtable discussions, 9/11 Living Memorial workshops and exhibits. Staff from the NYC Medical Director will be available to make ID’s and update the families on the identification process. Our dear friends, Dianne Brudnicki and her art students will make their annual journey from Seattle, Washington to distribute gifts to the 9/11 families. Our social work staff will be available to meet individually with those attending.

Following the forum we hope you will join us for VOICES Day of Remembrance Benefit on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. The cocktail reception will be held from 6pm to 9pm. All proceeds from the event will support our continued work to create the 9/11 Living Memorial as a meaningful tribute to honor the lives of those we lost. Reservations are required.

In closing, as the debate about plans for the Islamic Center near Ground Zero continues, we are gathering input from our membership. If you haven’t already, please be sure to participate in the survey we are conducting.

As always, please contact our office if we can be of assistance.

Warm regards,

Mary Fetchet & The VOICES Staff
