In anticipation of the 10th Anniversary of 9/11, Voices of September 11th is offering a Speaker Series to provide 9/11 families, survivors and rescue and recovery workers with a community of support while promoting self-expression, healing and resilience. The set of six presentations will run from March through August 2011, held at the VOICES New Brunswick office at 84 Albany Street in New Brunswick. The series will be a combination of lecture and hand-on activities.

Eileen D. Ellis is a full-blooded Mohawk Indian Medicine Woman with ancestral healers on both sides of her lineage. She possesses a Master’s Degree in social Work and has been trained by the Four Winds Society in Energy Medicine. Her private practice and classes are aimed at restoring our natural wholeness, teaching Native American wisdom practices and re-connecting us to Spirit and Nature.

Art as a Tool for Self-Expression and Healing

Ellis Eisner

Ellis Eisner, a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist, has been a professional Art Therapist for more than ten years. During her tenure, Ellis has developed expertise in the facilitation of art, as well as verbally based therapy groups and individual sessions. Ms. Eisner has a private practice in Metuchen, and also works as an Art Therapist for The Resiliency Matters Network, an evolving network of mind/body healing professionals with a common goal of providing techniques to create peace of mind and balance while developing coping skills to address trauma and suffering. Ms Eisner also facilitated art therapy groups for children who lost family members on 9/11 and worked as a volunteer for Camp Good Grief post 9/11.

Resilience for 9/11 Families and Survivors

Nicci Spinazzola

Nicci Spinazzola is a licensed marriage and family therapist, licensed professional counselor, and board-certified expert in traumatic stress, specializing in adolescent and family treatment related to trauma and loss. She has designed and implemented programs to meet the needs of families, schools, and community organizations, speaking extensively on the topics of suicide, managing sudden and traumatic loss in the schools, resiliency, and other related topics. Ms. Spinazolla is the co-author of helping School Staff Prepare for the 9/11 Anniversary and Beyond 9/11, an award winning video. She is also co-authored the Families’ GOALS Project, a series of psycho-educational support groups for families that experiences a traumatic loss.

Music Therapy, Voice and Breathwork

Toby Williams

Toby Williams is a music therapist, jazz singer, voice teacher and early education music instructor. She has a master’s degree in music therapy from NYU and works with developmentally delayed children and children on the autism spectrum, as well as adults seeking creative expression and healing through breathing, singing and movement. Toby offers workshops on how to use the voice and body to promote emotional and physical healing. She teaches depth breathing techniques, toning for stress relief and relaxation, vocal sounding, improvisation, and group vocal games.

Bonnie McEneaney

Bonnie McEneaney holds a BA from Brown University and an MPS from Cornell University. She had a long, successful career as a senior executive in the financial services industry and, more recently, changed her focus to writing. After losing her husband, Eamon, on 9/11, she published A Bend in the Road (Cornell Library, 2004), which is a compilation of her husband's poetry. Her book, Messages, is a collection of inspiring true stories about the spiritual experiences of those who lost loved ones on September 11, 2001. Bonnie lives with her four children in New England and is a board member of Voices of September 11th.
