Dear Families and Friends,
In many cities across the United States, communities observed Veteran's Day by gathering together for a Veteran's Day parade. New York was no exception. Young and old alike gathered to watch a full fanfare of American flags waving, bands playing, and representatives from the military and prominent leaders march up Fifth Avenue.
As we honor the men and women from around the country who have made the personal sacrifice of leaving their families to serve in the military, we recognize their dedication and bravery in safeguarding our country. We are also reminded of those who were injured or lost their lives in the line of duty, and the families they left behind. Today we honor their memory and give thanks to those men and women who are serving our country today to preserve our freedoms.
During the holidays VOICES is sponsoring a GIVE BACK to the military families by supporting Blue Star Families Books On Bases, Smiles on Faces program. This program donates books to military children, base libraries, Department of Defense schools, and military-impacted schools in the U.S. The program began on September 10, 2009 and they have already distributed thousands of books to schools and military families.
We invite you to join VOICES effort to show our appreciation to the military families by contributing books or making a small donation. If you would like to participate, books can be mailed to our New Canaan office: Voices of September 11th, 161 Cherry Street, New Canaan, CT 06840 or delivered to our offices in New Canaan, CT or New Brunswick, NJ. We will begin the campaign by contributing copies of the books, "The Survivor Tree" and "I Am You, You Are Me." These stories of resiliency and hope have inspired many children who lost loved ones on 9/11 and we believe that the children of military families will appreciate them as well. Feel free to include a personal note. The deadline for submissions is December 12th, so we can deliver the books to local military bases in time for Christmas.
As always, our best wishes to you and your family. Feel free to contact our office at 203-966-3911 if we can be of assistance.
Warm Regards
Mary Fetchet & The VOICES Staff
