Dear Families and Friends,
In this week's newsletter we are featuring stories about the legacy that several family members have created through their work.
Last week President Obama honored Steve and Liz Alderman with the 2011 Presidential Citizens Award for their work in establishing clinics in post-conflict countries through the foundation they created in memory of their son, Peter. As Liz Alderman wrote in her e-mail, "we wanted to leave a profound and indelible mark that Peter existed and that because he had lived, the world would be a better place.".
Last night I joined others at the launch of Edie Lutnick's book, "An Unspoken Bond". Edie and Howard Lutnick spoke eloquently about the loss of their brother Gary on 9/11 and their dedication in co-founding the Cantor Relief Fund to support the 658 Cantor Fitzgerald families. Edie writes, "I hope that I have been able to communicate the strength and fortitude these families possess in the face of unimaginable obstacles." The book also highlights the advocacy efforts required of so many of us and the challenges we faced in navigating complicated systems along the way.
Thanks to all who responded to our request for tenth anniversary events in your communities. Tom Nicosia shared photographs of a Candlelight Vigil held on September 10th at the Garden of Reflection 9-11 Memorial in Yardley, Pennsylvania. Tom expressed how meaningful it was to commemorate the anniversary with "a small, tight community gathered with the families of victims."
