Dear Families and Friends,
We are profoundly saddened to hear the news of the recent shooting at the Sikh Temple in Oak Creek, Wisconsin. Although the event is still under investigation, the Oak Creek Police are currently treating this as an incident of domestic terrorism. Six individuals tragically died, and three were wounded, including one police officer - in yet another senseless act of violence. Fortunately the Oak Creek police officers responding to the event demonstrated bravery throughout the incident, preventing others from serious injury. It is these selfless acts of heroism, which remind us of the important role our first responders play in protecting our communities.
Just over two weeks after the shooting in Aurora, Colorado, this event has left us shocked and saddened. Those of us who lost family and friends on 9/11 know the heartache of losing a loved one in a violent act fueled by prejudice and hate. We also recognize the support the community will need in the coming months and the years ahead, as they grieve those lost and honor their memories. We extend our sympathy to the families who lost loved ones and pray for those recovering, hoping that they will find strength and support in their community.
