VOICES OF SEPTEMBER 11TH HOLDS THIRD IN SERIES OF
FREE SPEAKER SERIES EVENTS:
"CHAN MEDITATION WORKSHOP" WITH REBECCA LI


Voices of September 11th will hold its third speaker series event of the year at its New Brunswick office on Friday, March 8th from 2:00 - 4:00pm. In this workshop, lay Darma teacher Rebecca Li will discuss the principles and method of Chan meditation. Participants will learn how to establish their meditation practice and the correct posture, method and attitude needed to engage in the practice. They will also learn how to apply the practice on a daily basis, leading to a more fulfilling and joyful life. To get the most out of the workshop, participants should wear comfortable clothing.

Rebecca Li teaches at the Dharma Drum Retreat Center (DDRC) and Chan Meditation Center (CMC) in New York.  She began her practice in 1996 under the founder Chan Master Sheng Yen. Since then, she has attended numerous intensive Chan retreats and began translating for Master Sheng Yen in 1999. She was trained and certified by Master Sheng Yen to teach and began teaching in 2002. She teaches Dharma and meditation classes, leads retreats and gives public Dharma talks at CMC. She also leads short retreats and assists in intensive retreats at DDRC and has been invited to teach at other Dharma Drum chapters, Rutgers University meditation group and Newark Community Meditation Center. She currently serves on the board of DDRC. Rebecca is a professor of sociology in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at The College of New Jersey. She conducts research on China, loves reading, traveling and tennis. She lives in central Jersey with her husband.

Voices of September 11th is nationally recognized for its work with the 9/11 community to provide long-term support services that promote resiliency.  Since its inception in 2002, Voices of September 11th has established expertise in providing support services to victims' families, rescue workers and survivors. Today, its work includes a program assisting the World Trade Center Health Program in informing 9/11 rescue and recovery workers, and other survivors, about their potential eligibility for health care benefits to address their 9/11-related medical and mental health issues. Voices of September 11th has offices in New Canaan, CT and New Brunswick, NJ.

The speaker series events are held at the Voices of September office located at 84 Albany Street in New Brunswick.  The program is free, but reservations are requested.
