Dear Friends and Colleagues,

On Tuesday, June 10th VOICES Center of Excellence for Community Resilience is hosting a half-day training on Motivational Interviewing. The training will be held from 1pm to 4pm at the VOICES office, located at 84 Albany Street, New Brunswick, NJ. Emma Shelby, Assistant Director of Wellness and Recovery Services at The Mental Health Association in New Jersey will provide the training. The training is free, but space is limited and reservations are required.

VOICES Center of Excellence for Community Resilience shares lessons learned to assist communities in preparing for, responding to and recovering from traumatic events. VOICES Center serves as a clearinghouse of information and provides educational programs to help families and communities heal after acts of mass violence or natural disaster.

Motivational Interviewing is a collaborative, person-centered form of guiding to elicit and strengthen a client's motivation for change. Motivational Interviewing is grounded in a respectful stance with a focus on building rapport in the initial stages of the counseling relationship.

Motivational interviewing techniques are especially relevant for clinicians and professionals providing direct assistance to clients impacted by 9/11, Superstorm Sandy, as well as other traumatic events. Feel free to forward the information to your colleagues who may be interested in attending. Kindly RSVP to Carrie Miller at cmiller@voicesofsept11.org or call 732-543-2300.
