February 2, 2016

Dear Families and Friends,

Our thanks to the hundreds of 9/11 and Air India family members who participated in VOICES Research Project, "Investigating the Long-Term Impact of Bereavement Due to Terrorism: Factors That Contribute to Trauma, Grief, Growth and Resilience."   We recognize that this may have been an emotional experience, and we appreciate your time and important insights.

Now that the research study has closed, Dr. Stephen Cozza and the researchers at the Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress have begun analyzing your responses.  Once the analysis is complete, we will be collaborating with Dr. Cozza to produce a summary of the preliminary findings that we will share with the families in advance of making them public.  We expect that the preliminary findings will be available in advance of the 15th Anniversary and will keep you informed as we have more details.

As always, feel free to contact our office at (203) 966-3911 if we can be of assistance.

Warm regards,

9/11 Living Memorial Project

Commemorating the 2,977 lives lost at the
World Trade Center, the Pentagon and in Shanksville, PA

In September 2015, VOICES announced the launch of our new 9/11 Living Memorial website that honors in a meaningful way the lives of those lost on 9/11.  Our staff recently worked with the family of Abe Zelmanowitz, and we would like to share the story of his life.

Remembering Abe Zelmanowitz

Abe exemplifies the spirit of selfless heroism exhibited by so many on 9/11. Abe worked as a computer programmer for Empire Blue Cross and Blue Shield on the 27th Floor of the North Tower.  Rather than evacuate after the building was hit, Abe chose to stay behind with his friend and colleague Ed Beyea, who was a quadriplegic, to wait for rescue after the elevators stopped working.  Both Abe and Ed lost their lives that morning, as did FDNY Captain William Burke, who was assisting with Ed's evacuation.

World Trade Center Health Program Extended
Through 2090

As we are sure you are aware, funds are now available to extend the World Trade Center Health Program through 2090 for responders and survivors suffering from medical and mental health issues.

The extension of the program will provide treatment for first responders and volunteers who helped with the rescue, recovery and cleanup at the World Trade Center site and related sites in New York City.  The program also includes services for survivors and evacuees who were in the disaster area or who lived, worked or went to school there.

Practitioners with more than a decade of experience in 9/11-related conditions provide high-quality mental health and medical care, including treatment for some cancers.  Additional cancers continue to be added to the list of covered medical conditions.

VOICES Program Director Stephanie Landau is working with responders and survivors to assist them in the process of applying to the program.  She is also available to answer any questions or provide information about your eligibility.  Stephanie can be reached at (203) 966-3911 or by email at slandau@voicesofsept11.org.

Building Resilience Together

Each week, VOICES hears from many of the people we are proud to provide support services to.  Here is what some of them are saying:

"If it wasn't for VOICES, I would not have known about the World Trade Center Health Program. Thank you again!"

"Thank you for the splendid work you do in connecting, educating and teaching us coping skills."

We rely on donations and sponsors to provide funding for these important programs. Please consider a charitable gift to VOICES today!
