September was a busy month for us at VOICES!
Thanks to all who contributed to the success of this year's events.

On September 5 we hosted our 3rd Annual Golf Outing at the Country Club of Fairfield.  Fortunately, the weather cooperated and the participants had another beautiful day of golf overlooking the Long Island Sound.

Our thanks to our Honorary Chairman Mike Greenberg from ESPN, and special guests former New York Jets Coach Herm Edwards, PGA Touring Professional Bryson DeChambeau and Governor Thomas Kean for joining us.

 Resiliency Symposium & Information Forum

Once again VOICES held our September 9 Resiliency Symposium and September 10 Annual Day of Remembrance Information Forum at the Marriott Downtown in New York City.  Over 400 individuals attended the two-day event which brought together victims' families, survivors and responders and accomplished professionals with expertise in the fields of mental health, victims' services, law enforcement, occupational health and medicine.

VOICES Resiliency Symposium, Knowledge to Practice: Pathways to Long-Term Healing, brought together leading researchers and practitioners along with those impacted by traumatic events.

This year, we were honored to have keynote speakers Dr. Katherine Shear present her pioneering work in Complicated Grief, and Dr. David Grand discuss his innovative Brainspotting Method which can be used to treat PTSD.

The day-long event included testimonies from Victims, Survivors and Responders, who shared their personal journeys of strength and resilience. Leading professionals who responded in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook shooting, the Boston Marathon bombing and the September 11 attacks also shared valuable insights and lessons learned.

The event was a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between research and practice, as well as to learn from individuals who have been directly affected by acts of terrorism and mass violence.

On the eve of the Anniversary VOICES hosted our 16th Annual Day of Remembrance Information Forum.  This year, we were honored to have Jon Stewart and John Feal, Founder and President of The FealGood Foundation speak about their tireless advocacy efforts to ensure that responders and survivors receive the care they deserve.

Beginning with a We Remember Ceremony, candles were lit to honor the lives lost and recognize the many individuals who continue to support the 9/11 community.  As in years past, the Clinical Directors from the World Trade Center Health Program provided updates on treatment for medical and psychological conditions and legal experts and victims' advocates discussed the Victims Compensation Fund.  Clinicians with decades of professional experience shared their expertise about mental health treatment and building strength and resiliency.

The afternoon began with a presentation on Commemoration and Creating a Narrative for Survivors. We were honored to have Alice Greenwald, CEO & President of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, Sue Frost, award-winning producer of Come From Away, and author Allison Gilbert provide a broad perspective on the important process of commemoration. The day concluded with peer-to-peer roundtable discussions facilitated by our colleagues from AGPA.  Thanks to the generosity of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, attendees visited the Museum following the Forum.
