In keeping with VOICES commitment to sharing lessons learned, Founding Director Mary Fetchet participated in several international conferences this spring. She traveled to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to present to the Canadian military leadership at the 3rd Canadian Division's Wellness Training, and was honored to participate in the Strength and Healing Conference where she met with families of the fallen Canadians who died post-9/11 while serving in Afghanistan. Reflecting on the trip, Mary noted, "It was heartwarming to meet the Canadian family members of the fallen and the military leadership, yet heartbreaking that 9/11 continues to have a worldwide impact on the families of so many."
VOICES has been an honorary member of the Leadership in Counter Terrorism (LinCT) organization for six years, and was honored to participate in the annual International Counter Terrorism Conference in New York City. The panelists discussed Incorporating Victims' Needs Into Your Counterterrorism Strategy. Mary joined Sue O'Sullivan, LinCT Alumi Association; Karen Joyce-McMahon, Section Chief, FBI, Victim Services; Peter Sparks, Detective Chief Inspector, Counter Terrorism Command, UK; and Levent Altan, Executive Director, Victim Support Europe. In her remarks Mary noted, "It is truly a privilege to be affiliated with LinCT Alumni, dedicated individuals who are working collaboratively to make the world a safer place. I've witnessed remarkable progress in LinCT's commitment to incorporating the needs of victims into their plans, while also considering the well-being of their colleagues who are tasked with responding to tragedies."
