Dear Families,

As the 20th Anniversary approaches, we want to share our upcoming plans and important details of special interest for the 9/11 families.

The theme of our 20th Anniversary Programs and Events is Remembrance, Reflection and Resilience. Our goal is to provide meaningful programs that promote resilience, while reconnecting the 9/11 community, remembering those we lost, and reflecting on our journey together. For more updates on our programs, click here.

We are thinking of you and your families as we approach this milestone, and look forward to reconnecting in the coming months. As always, our staff is available if we can be of assistance. Please call the office at 203-966-3911 or email us at support@voicescenter.org.

Warm regards,

Mary Fetchet & the VOICES Team

20th Anniversary Remembrance Symposium

VOICES Remembrance Symposium has become an annual tradition, and once again the event will be held on September 9 and 10 at the Marriott Downtown Hotel located at 85 West Street. The two-day program will also be broadcast online to provide an opportunity for families who are not able to travel to NYC to attend. The event is free and open to all, but registration is required.

This year's program features individuals who will reflect on accomplishments over the past 20 years and update the 9/11 community on important topics that are still pending. A few of our guests include: Governor Thomas Kean, Chair of the 9/11 Commission, Alice Greenwald, President of the 9/11 Memorial Museum, representatives of the law firms that are working diligently on compensation programs for responders and survivors, and litigating pending lawsuits to hold the perpetrators accountable. Sports celebrities Bobby Valentine and Jeff Van Gundy, are among the list of others who will be joining us.

Please note: Due to the vulnerability of the 9/11 community, all attendees must be vaccinated and show proof of vaccination upon arrival. For information and to register online visit voicescenter.org/2021-symposium.

The program will begin with a brief presentation, providing suggestions on ways to cope with, and prepare for the commemoration of the 20th Anniversary. Participants will then join small discussion groups facilitated by a clinician, to allow for meaningful conversation.

Reservations for the Reflection Room at the 9/11 Museum

The Reflection Room is a private space exclusively for 9/11 families to visit and pay their respects while visiting the Museum. The Reflection Room and the adjoining Repository where unidentified and unclaimed remains of the WTC victims are kept while identifications continue to be made, are under the jurisdiction of the New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME).

If you are interested in visiting the Reflection Room, appointments are required in advance. To schedule a reservation contact Jen Odien at the NYC OCME Office by email JOdien@ocme.nyc.gov call 212-447-2767.

Update your contact information for the Notification of Remains

VOICES continues to collaborate with the NYC Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) to ensure the families are up-to-date and informed about their ongoing efforts to identify remains in their possession. As part of that effort, VOICES is assisting the OCME in updating the contact information for 9/11 family members. As a reminder, all family members of the victim are entitled to be notified when remains are identified. If you would like to update your contact information, or be included in the notification process, we encourage you to complete this form.
