Dear Families and Friends,
As we head into summer, we hope you are taking time to relax.
Preparations are underway for our 22nd Annual Remembrance Symposium to be held on September 9 and 10 in New York City. Once again the event will be hosted in partnership with the Leadership In Counterterrorism Alumni Association and the International Network Supporting Victims of Terrorism and Mass Violence. Sponsorships are available and registration is open!
VOICES 9th Annual Golf Outing was held on June 12th at the prestigious Quaker Ridge Golf Cub in Scarsdale, NY. The event was a wonderful success thanks to our Golf Committee and the 123 golfers who participated. Most importantly, funds raised from the event allow us to provide free programs and support services for thousands of individuals and families.
As July is Mental Health Awareness month, we have included links to last month’s webinars that may be of interest - Uncovering Resilience: The Power of Connection and Community and Helping the Helper: Understanding Vicarious Trauma and Compassion Fatigue.
The newsletter includes information about two important pieces of legislation that directly affect the 9/11 Community. The bipartisan Ensuring Justice for Victims of Terrorism Act closes loopholes in 2016’s Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA). The 9/11 Notice Act would require businesses and institutions to inform individuals who returned to the Ground Zero area in the days and months after the attacks, of their potential eligibility for the WTC Health Program and the Victim Compensation Fund.
As Independence Day approaches, we wish you a celebratory 4th of July. Our office is closed on July 3 and 4 in observance of the holiday. We are back in the office on July 5 if we can be of assistance.
With warm regards,
Mary Fetchet & the VOICES Team
