Dear Families and Friends,

Happy New Year from our family to yours!

As we begin 2024, our staff remains committed to providing meaningful support for victims’ families, responders and survivors, while collaborating with public-private partners to educate and train community stakeholders to prepare for and respond to other tragedies.

To that end, our staff is planning focus groups, support services, monthly webinars, and the launch of VOICES Community Preparedness Training. Meg Rooney joins us on January 12 to lead us in a Mindful Moment Meditation. On January 23, our longtime friend, Dr. Robin Gurwitch will present The Ripple Effect of Trauma: Understanding and Supporting Those Impacted by Mass Violence. Dr. Gurwitch has an extensive clinical background in responding to the needs of children impacted by mass tragedy.

All of us at VOICES are excited about the opportunities ahead in 2024 – as we renew our work with our longstanding partners and expand our collaborations to collectively build a better tomorrow.

We look forward to our work together in the coming year!

With warm regards,
Mary Fetchet & the VOICES Team

Upcoming Events
The Ripple Effect of Trauma
Understanding and Supporting Those Impacted by Mass Violence
Presented by Dr. Robin Gurwitch

Tuesday, January 23rd - 7:00pm EST
The impact of mass violence spreads like a boulder thrown into a calm pond. It affects those directly involved, including survivors, family members of those killed or injured, responders, and the entire community where the event occurred. It has lasting mental health effects, which can range from adverse consequences to posttraumatic growth.

Dr. Gurwitch, a clinical psychologist with nearly 30 years specializing in the affect of trauma on children, will discuss the impact of mass violence and suggest ways that can contribute to healing and recovery, both short and long-term.

Join us for VOICES Community Virtual Focus Group

Thursday, January 11th - 12:00pm EST
Your opinion matters! As we plan our 2024 programs, VOICES remains committed to providing meaningful experiences that will be helpful to you and your family. In an effort to gather ideas, we are hosting a series of VOICES Community Focus Groups, facilitated by our staff. The first group of this series will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024 from 12pm to 1pm.

The discussion will focus on topics such as, “What do you and your family need at this time?” “What support programs would be helpful?” “What workshop topics are of interest?” “What suggestions do you have for continuing to build a supportive community?” Break-out groups will allow for more in-depth conversations to share suggestions that will help shape our programs.

All are welcome and encouraged to participate!
