Voices February Newsletter

Dear Families and Friends,

Tomorrow – Wednesday, February 5th at 7pm EST - we are hosting a webinar presented by our good friend, Dr. Ken Druck. In light of the LA wildfires and other recent tragedies, Dr. Druck will share his expertise on healing after loss.

February 12th marks the 16th anniversary of the loss of VOICES Co-founder, Beverly Eckert in the Continental Flight 3407 crash in Buffalo, New York. The recent airline tragedies in Washington, DC and Philadelphia brought back a flood of emotions for Beverly’s family and all who knew her. In memory of Beverly, we are rebroadcasting a webinar highlighting the advocacy efforts of her sisters to promote airline safety.

On February 25th, we are hosting a webinar with the NYC Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and the OCME staff. 9/11 Family Members are invited to attend this private meeting to ask questions related to a recent 60 Minutes broadcast that highlighted the continued efforts of the OCME.

Surviving Loss in Tragedies like the LA Wildfires
Surviving Loss in Tragedies like the LA Wildfires
Presented by Dr. Ken Druck
Wednesday, February 5th - 7:00pm EST

There seems to be an increase in the frequency of our exposure to tragic events. Most recently, the wildfires in LA, and plane crashes in Washington, DC and Philadelphia highlight the loss, vulnerability and anxiety felt by so many. Whether you or someone you know has lost a loved one, been displaced or responded to a tragic event, these disasters underscore the importance of learning to cope with loss.

VOICES Presents at the National Counterterrorism Center

Mary and Frank Fetchet were invited to speak at the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) in Washington, DC to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the NCTC’s formation. The establishment of the NCTC was a critical recommendation of the 9/11 Commission. The organization has the important responsibility to fuse foreign and domestic information and terrorism analysis to protect the nation from terrorist threats. Our presentation provided context about the significance of their work, especially for newer employees who were young or not born on 9/11/2001. We would like to share opening remarks by Brett Holmgren, Acting Director of the NCTC. To read his remarks, click here.
60 Minutes Highlights Ongoing Efforts of the NYC OCME

On November 17, 2024, 60 Minutes aired, More than 20 years after 9/11, difficult work of identifying remains continues. The episode highlighted the ground-breaking work of the NYC Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) and their continued efforts to identify all the victims who died at the World Trade Center site. Of the 2,753 who died there that day, 1,103 individuals have not yet been identified. Since 9/11, VOICES has been privileged to have a longstanding relationship with the OCME to support families during the notification process. To view the segment, click here.
