As we welcome the warmer weather, our enthusiastic luncheon committee is busy planning VOICES Building Bridges Luncheon, to be held on April 9th at the Country Club of New Canaan. This year we are honored to present Gunnar Esiason, Rare Disease Patient Advocate with the 2025 Building Bridges Award. ESPN Sports Personality Jeremy Schaap will join us to moderate a conversation. On March 11th, VOICES is hosting an important conversation with WTC Health Program advocates John Feal and Ben Chevat. They will discuss efforts to ensure funding for this vital program that provides critical medical and mental health care for thousands of survivors and responders. Tune in to learn how you can help.
 
Are you and your family prepared for an emergency? On March 18th, VOICES is hosting the first in a series of community workshops entitled Community Preparedness Training: Preparing Individuals and Families for an Emergency in partnership with New Canaan Emergency Management and local organizations.
 
Last month VOICES hosted a webinar with Dr. Jason Graham, NYC Chief Medical Examiner, and his staff who provided updates on the ongoing identification process. A rebroadcast of the webinar is scheduled on March 20 for family members who were not able to attend.
 
A special note of interest to our golfing members – registration is now open for VOICES 11th Annual Golf Outing, which will be held on Monday, June 9 at the majestic Quaker Ridge Golf Club in Scarsdale, New York.

Voices Center for Resilience is offering a Community Preparedness workshop to provide individuals with strategies to prepare in advance of an emergency. The workshop includes an overview of the basic components on how to be better prepared in your home, work and community, whether sheltering in place or evacuating. The program is held in collaboration with New Canaan Emergency Management, and includes a panel discussion to highlight the important work of local organizations and professionals responsible for keeping our community prepared and safe.

Rupa Bhattacharyya, the former Special Master of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund (VCF), spoke with VCF advocate Jon Stewart on The Daily Show on February 25th. The segment, titled World Trade Center Health Program & DOGE’s Effect on Government, focused on the impact that government cuts would have on the program.
 
Appointed by President Barack Obama in 2016, Bhattacharyya continued her service under the Trump and Biden administrations. She emphasized her role in ensuring that individuals affected by the toxic exposure following the 9/11 attacks received the compensation they rightfully deserved.
